Brian Jenkins Race Report
Submitted by ncollins on Wed, 2008-05-07 08:58.After a long winter of very hard training around 30 hours per week for the last 7 months it was great to wake up to such a bright sunny day for Joey. Nerves were really kicking in on the drive over to UL
and were only added to to when I saw the competition. The race standard was really raised with the entry of Brian Campbell and the Irish Development squad. It was great for me to have world class coach Chris Jones there to talk me through the warm up, and watching the novice athletes going so well and seeing the event running so smoothly helped to settle the nerves.
Once the race started it was great to have the crowd cheering at the end of the swim and out onto the bike. It often gets lonely out on the bike so it was great to have the marshals cheering us on as we went passed.
Joey Race Report
Submitted by ncollins on Wed, 2008-05-07 08:56.Joey sent the sunshine (and a little wind!) for a fantastic event at UL on Sunday last, the 4th of May. The club played host to 400 athletes from all over the country including the Elite development squad.
The main contenders in the mens race all finished the swim in a time around the 20 minute mark but Eoghan Considine (Galway) shot off on the bike creating a two minute lead for himself which he maintained, throughout the bike. Brian Campbell (Hi Elbow) and our own Brian Jenkins chased him down on the run, catching him early on. Campbell and Jenkins ran together for a bit but eventually Campbell pushed through and beat Jenkins to win in a time of 2 hours and 19 seconds. Colin Bolger (Pulse) was third in a time of 2.02.51.
