Richardson Wins Age Group at National Sprint Champs
With most club members enjoying the Kilrush event, Dave Richardson (pictured at 'Joey' 2010) was preparing for the National Sprint Championships at 'Lough Key'. Dave had a great race to win his age group and finish sixth overall. A strong swim (5th) and cycle (7th) but him into sixth overall which he then held onto for the run. Pro Gavin Noble, fresh from his Saturday win in Kilrush took victory but only by a mere second over Conor Murphy. Unfortunately we don't think there were any other limerick participants at the event but it might be one to consider for the future as it is reported to be a great race in an extremely scenic area. Gavin may be Noble but Johnny's still our King
A perfect day yesterday saw the holding of the final sprint tri in the 'Tri 3 Series'. It was a late start but this gave all competitors and spectators plenty of time to get prepeared and lap up some of the glorious sun. Returning from injury Lisa Horgan had a spectacular race to win the Ladies with a great result also from Laoise Griffin who finished third. Limerick also had success on the Junior front with Andrew O'Hara taking first in his category with a great time of 1:22. In the mens our dual member Louis Kelleher took third position, narrowly loosing out in a sprint finish for second. Louis also managed to win the overall series prize aided by yesterdays performance (next stop for him is the World Champs next week). Darragh Dunne finished fourth with chairperson Johnny Deegan having a great race to finish fifth followed by Cian Murphy in sixth (with the fastest run split on the day). The race was easily won by Pro Triathlete Gavin Noble who all assumed took all the quickest splits until the results show our own Johnny D with the fastest bike split overall, a call up to the national squad may be on the cards! Following on from his excellent result at the 'Brian Boru Triathlon' in Killaloe our developing triathlete Aaron O'Brien looked on form for another great result but unfortunately Aaron had to retire early on the run due to injury. As always congrats to all club members who participated in the event. Great organisation, lovely course, buzzing atmosphere, this event comes highly recommended for next season. Thanks to all on the 'Tri3' team for a great event. Results can be found here and Gordon's great snaps here.
Weekend Tri Fun at Fermoy & Dublin
The first race this weekend was held in Fermoy. This was a sprint event with good attendance from our club. Congratulations to Andree Walkin who had her best race ever to finish as second Female. Well done also toMike o Grady and Niall Maloney who were the first Limerick athletes home in 10th & 11th positions. Check out all the Fermoy results here. Other members not competing in Fermoy were clearly tapering for the 'National Olympic Distance Championships' which were held in Dublin this year. With the swim in the Liffey (the clean section) followed by the cycle and run with laps in the Phoenix Park, the event successfully catered for over 650 participants between their main and supersprint events. David Richardson led the way home for the Limerick element, coming 23rd overall and 7th in his category amongst an extremely competitive field that included Gavin Noble who won the event. Great performances also from Mike Ryan taking 3rd in cat., Liam Liddy who took 4th in cat. and Mike Casey O'Shea finishing 9th in cat. Many more club members in Dublin with great performances also, you can check the dublin results here.
Great Performances at Half Ireman
It was the National Middle Distance Chmpionships in Groomsport, Co. Down on Sunday last and our members didn't disappoint. On what was a dry, sunny and warm day(but not too hot), Alison Ledger had what had to be her race of the season taking a third podium position in the National Championship event. In the male category Mike O' Brien with a strong race in general but a super run split (3rd quickest) powered through the field to a very impressive 5th overall. The challenging course (1.9km swim, 93km cycle, 21km run) which is famous for it's multi terrain run, through beaches, caravan parks, along piers, trails, sand dunes etc. put all through their paces and it was a tough day. Also in attendance form Limerick Tri were Darragh Dunne and Fergal O' Callaghan. The event was won by Brian Campbell who seems tobe back to top form once more. Results are available here. Some of the event was also shown on BBC, footage is here
Excellent Cat. finishes at CK Tri
A lot of members headed up Mullingar direction for the annual 'Caroline Kearney' Triathlon. This great olympic distance event has grown over the past few years and has become very popular with our members. With a large contingent from our club there were plenty of satisfying results. Niall Collins (even after technical difficulties) placed highest in 17th overall and 2nd in his cat. Just a minute down was our Chairperson, Johnny Deegan. An excellent race for Johnny won him 1st in his cat. Unfortunately as a result of Niall passing out our chairperson on the run leg of the event it seems he has broken strict club protocall and some form of disciplinary action seems inevitable. Have your say here. The Griffins also had great races with Laoise finishing 2nd in her cat. whilst mother Joan continues to dominate her cat. at most events with another 1st position. Mike Ryan picked up 2nd place in his cat as well as the evergreen Niall O Donovan picking up 3rd in his cat.Oh, there was one other very good result, but the guy isn't really a proper member so we won't bother mentioning it. Ah well I suppose we better. Louis Kelleher (Bellpark/Limerick?) had a solid race through all three disciplines giving him a great 8th position overall. Well done to all members who attended the well organised event and from what we hear it comes highly recommended and will definitely see a strong showing from Limerick again next year. Limerick enjoys Tri Brian Boru
Just up the road from home, many of our club took to the tough, tough, tough sprint race in Killaloe today. There was a mixture of success and disappointment from both our Female and Male participants. The most notable achievement of the day had to be what came from junior member Aaron O' Brien. This 16 year old super triathlete managed to finish a spectacular 3rd overall taking the rank over many seasoned and experienced athletes. Already involved with Triathlon Ireland and currently training alongside Mike Yelverton under Mark Dempsey, Aaron's progress has been rapid and he is one to watch for the future. More excellent performances where Limerick athletes took 2nd Female home with Lynne Algar and 2nd Male with Mike O' Brien. These two have showed consistantly strong performances all season long. The voluntary contribution of their winnings to the club is akin to the spirit in the Tour d' France where all individual winnings are shared equally within the team. No rubber cheques like last time please! We had more members finishing Top 10 also with Cian Murphy 5th (somebody slow him down he's got too quick too soon), Niall Collins 6th and Mike Casey O'Shea 10th. Some other lessons learned today also where sometimes things just out of your control
can happen. Mike Yelverton picked up his fist ever race puncture which put an end to his race where he was in a promising lead at the time, but onwards and upwards. Mike's younger sister Elaine did not have any misfortune, she went on to win the 'Splash n Dash' event on the day with a convincing win over her nearest competitior, an excellent performance and we look forward to more success from her into the future. Other technical bike difficulties also suffered by Katie Fitzgerald today which affected her race. The event was attended and supported by many more Club members, too many to mention, but all will have stories of the tough cycle and excruciating run. You can check out their results which which are here now. Oh! almost forgot, the race was won by Martin Grealish of Predator Tri with a time just over 1:21, great performance from a guy who is going very strong on the National Series. Gordon's photos of the event are here
Limerick Triathletes Show Form at Kilkenny, Kinsale, Wicklow
Fresh results in from this weekends racing in Kinsale (Sprint), Kilkenny (Sprint+Olympic) and 'Beast of the East' (Olympic). In Kinsale the rain held off, a lovely day there really, where Tom O Donnell took category victory on the tough sprint course. It's not called 'King of the Hill' for noting! An excellent result from Eoin Gamble placing second in his category after ignoring doctor's advice to rest up after a recent ailment, but as Eoin said at the finish line 'Pain is temporary, club pide is forever'. Darragh Dunne finished with a top 10 in the race. A very enjoyable race down there with credit to Cork Tri Club. Amazing to see the ability of elite Bryan Keane who took Kinsale victory with ease. Kinsale results here. In Kilkenny reports still coming in but we hear that Niall Maloney had a great sprint event to finish a fantastic 7th in the overall results there, we'll post more on this new event as the news comes in. Kilkenny results here. Colm Turner put in another smashing performance in Wicklow to win 'Beast of the East'. Colm also won additional prizes there for taking the quickest bike and run splits. Read his Race report here). This event is reasonably new on the claendar and if you want a tough one this is it. The cycle includes a couple of monstrous climbs with some athletes reportedly looking for climbing equipment to tackle the run. Great reports back from our members there on the organistaion and efficiency of the event by Wiclow Tri Club. Well done on good perfomances by Dave Richardson (9th) and Deirdre Kearney (with an amazing quickest overall swim time) whilst our other rep. Miriam Mc Cormack was hit with technical difficulties on the bike leading to early retirement. 'Beast of the East' results here. Kilkee may be over but there's still plenty of excellent racing out there, check out the TI calendar and see if you can get yourself into a few more events.
Limerick's Ironmen

We look forward to the post race competitor reports. Enjoy the celebrations lads and we'll see you all at the track on Tuesday for Joe's 3km time trial!

Limerick Success in Carrick Galway Baltimore
Limerick athletes were on form again toady at a variety af races around the country. Colm Turner lead the way again with victory in the Carrick on Suir sprint event closely followed by Mike Yelverton to make it a 1,2 for Limerick there. Still in Carrick our own chairperson, Johnny Deegan, took category victory with a top 10 finish. Lots of club members competing at all levels so congrats to all. Carrick Results here. On another run of good form was Alison ledger with another second placing at the Carna Olympic Triathlon. Well the swim today would have actually challenged a lot of full Ironman events with competitors chasing down buoys drifting out to sea. Two more top 10 finishes there from Darragh Dunne and Niall Collins. Carna Results here Photoos here. As if two races weren't enough to fill the weekend another contingent of the club were sent to Baltimore in Cork. Mike O'Brien finished a super 4th in a strong field whilst taking age group victory at the same time. A very good performance from Louis Kelleher also with a top 10 finish . The committee appreciates M.O.B's kind gesture in passing on his cash winnings to the club funds for the benefit of all in the club, nice one. Baltimore Results here.
Richardson hits a Top 3 in Ballina
Up and coming star Dave Richardson came a brilliant 3rd place in the Salmon run tri in Ballina at the weekend. With a fantastic swim and bike he was run into 3rd on a very wet and slippy course. Great result and hopefully more to follow from him.
Andree Walkin managed a very credible 10th on a day that the wetsuit and goggles could have stayed on for the full course!! Results are here
